Shanghai, China played host to The International 2019 and on Day 3 the Upper Bracket would see two powerhouses of the region fighting for a guaranteed top 3 finish at the event – PSG.LGD versus Vici Gaming.
Both teams had a great run through the group stage, but it was the TI8 runners up who were the better in their group. However, VG’s domination through the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season was when their uprising begun – even beating LGD at MDL Disneyland® in the group stages. But The International is a whole different game and with the stakes so high, it was to be an intense battle.
The crowds cheering echoed around the Mercedes Benz Arena as both these giants of China begun their series. While it was a slow start for both teams, it quickly became apparent that VG could not really fight toe-to-toe with their opponents without invoking multiple casualties. As the game progressed, both teams managed to match one another in farm but once things reached their peak, it was very clear that LGD would take the game.
Both teams threw everything at each other in what was a fantastic series of Dota 2 at TI9. While the early period of game two begun in a slow manner once again, VG were able to grab a slight lead, shutting down Wang ‘Ame’ Chunyu’s Spectre constantly. But as the game continued, VG just had less and less chance to find kills – even though the tri-Midas lineup of LGD was extremely greedy.
Emphatically and with near perfection, PSG.LGD forced out the GG call from their opponents, moving forward in the upper bracket of TI9 and securing a guaranteed top 3 finish at the event. Vici Gaming would now drop to the lower bracket where they would face either Team Secret or Infamous Gaming.
